All tasks are subject to change. If you are planning to go straight to the site, please phone beforehand to check that the task hasn't changed. Tasks may be cancelled at short notice in bad weather.

January 2024

 

7th Scrub coppicing around the northern margin of the Big Meadow at Sussex Wildlife Trust’s Marline Valley nature reserve outside St Leonards.

14th Heathland management at Flatropers Wood, a Sussex Wildlife Trust nature reserve near Beckley.

21st Joining local volunteers at the Pett Level Preservation Society’s nature reserve at Cliff End.

28th Joining local volunteers at the Woodland Trust’s Brede High Woods (for volunteers who have registered with the Woodland Trust).

 

 

February

 

4th Cutting back scrub and willow bushes at the Bogs Field at Hooe Common, a nature reserve with many rare marshland plants. Wellingtons advised.

11th More scrub coppicing outside the Big Meadow at Marline (as above).

18th Joining local volunteers to manage the Pett Level Preservation Trust’s land at Cliff End.

25th Working at the Woodland Trust’s Brede High Wood (for volunteers who have registered with the Woodland Trust).

 

March

 

3rd Further management around the Bogs Field at Hooe Common.

10th Continued heathland management at Flatropers Wood.

17th Working with local volunteers at the Pett Level Preservation Trust’s nature reserve at Cliff End.

24th Working in the Big Meadow at Marline, where we shall be raking an area of scrub cleared in the winter, and digging out sallow bushes.

31st Working at the Woodland Trust’s Brede High Wood (for volunteers who have registered with the Woodland Trust).

April

 

7th The first of several spring visits to Sussex Wildlife Trust’s Marline Valley nature reserve outside St Leonards. To begin with we shall be clearing rubbish from the ground between the reserve and Queensway above the Napier Road junction, and then preparing timber in the Big Meadow to replace steps on the public footpath.

14th Marline Valley: step replacement on the public footpath in Park Wood, and raking an area of the Big Meadow we cleared from scrub in the winter.

21st (changed task) Emergency repairs to the boardwalk at Powdermill Wood, near Battle..

28th Conservation work at Brede High Woods (for volunteers who are registered with the Woodland Trust at that site).

 

May

 

5th A spring cut for parts of the meadow at Wainwright Close urban nature reserve, Church Fields, St Leonards.

12th No event today.

19th No event today.

26th Working at Brede High Woods (for volunteers who are registered with the Woodland Trust for that site).

 

June

 

2nd Cutting the regrowth on bracken and bramble around the Big Meadow at Marline.

9th Cutting regrowth of brambles and giant horsetail around the Pine Tree Field at Marline.

16th A visit to the ‘Bogs Field’ at Hooe Common, where we shall be cutting bracken and brambles to safeguard the rare plants that thrive here.

23rd A visit to Flatropers Wood, a Sussex Wildlife Trust nature reserve near Beckley, where we shall be mowing bramble and bracken growth beside the woodland rides.

30th Working at Brede High Woods (for volunteers who are registered with the Woodland Trust for that site).
