Woodland

All tasks are subject to change. If you are planning to go straight to the site, please phone beforehand to check that the task hasn't changed. Tasks may be cancelled at short notice in bad weather.

October

 

6th Heathland management at Sussex Wildlife Trust’s Flatropers Wood nature reserve near Beckley. We shall be cutting back overgrown heather and digging out birch seedlings.

13th An opportunity to join local volunteers from the Pett Level Preservation Society at their nature reserve at Cliff End (10-12).

20th Hand weeding parts of the ancient meadows at Sussex Wildlife Trust’s Marline Valley nature reserve outside St Leonards, which have not been mown this year by the tractor.

27th Joining local volunteers at the Woodland Trust’s Brede High Woods (for volunteers who have registered with the Woodland Trust).

November

 

3rd Coppicing path-side glades at Flatropers Wood, Beckley.

10th Mowing a few of the more overgrown bits of the Bogs Field at Hooe Common, the site of many rare wetland plants, and cutting back some gorse bushes. Wellingtons advised.

17th Joining local volunteers to manage the Pett Level Preservation Trust’s land at Cliff End (10-12). There may also be work more locally at Marline valley.

24th Working at the Woodland Trust’s Brede High Wood (for volunteers who have registered with the Woodland Trust).

 

December

 

1st Coppicing another woodland glade at Flatropers Wood near Beckley.

8th Continued coppicing at Flatropers Wood.

15th Working with local volunteers at the Pett Level Preservation Trust’s nature reserve at Cliff End (10-12). There may also be work more locally at Marline Valley.

22nd Coppicing a pathside glade at Marline valley, and using the timber we generate to build a dead-hedge and to resurface muddy sections of the path.
